Job Summary

This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining a variety of vehicles and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of engine diagnosis procedures on gasoline- and diesel-powered equipment.
  • Perform engine, exhaust, electrical, brake, transmission, and hydraulic repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance and repair to include, but is not limited to, the following functions: checking the condition and operation of transmission systems; exhaust systems; hydraulic systems; heating and air conditioning systems; brakes; batteries; tires; lights; fluid levels; belts; and safety equipment on a variety of gasoline- and diesel-powered equipment to include cars, vans, SUVs, mini busses, and motor coaches.
  • Perform emergency repairs on vehicles as necessary; troubleshoots equipment failures over the road when necessary.
  • Weld and fabricate parts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of:
    • the methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the repair of automotive and heavy equipment, including hydraulic and brake systems.  
    • preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
    • operating principles and mechanical repair of gasoline- and diesel-powered engines.
    • air brake systems and components.
    • principles and repair of hydraulic systems.
  • Skilled in:
    • researching and ordering parts.
    • diagnosing defects in automotive and heavy equipment, to include hydraulic, electrical, and air systems.
    • welding and fabricating parts.
    • use of hand and power tools.
    • general oral and written communication

Education, Experience, and Certification Requirements

  • HS Diploma/GED
  • completion of a trade school or other training program.
  • ASE, and/or other certifications
  • Competency commensurate with 5 years of experience in similar position
  • specialized training in the field of work such as an apprenticeship/internship.
  • possession of a valid driver's license.  Willing to obtain CDL
